Horizon Administration

• Sitting in on Scrum calls (update calls with the developers and Business Change team)

• What is Digital Experience and why is it important
• Shadowing Digital Experience Manager

Horizon Project/Change Management

• What is Project Management and how do we deliver projects at DG

Operations Supervisor

As an Intern in our Operations department, you will learn all aspects of International Freight movements. Some consider Freight to be an almost “hidden” industry, not thinking about how the goods we buy got to the shelves. However, it is much more diverse and interesting than some might imagine.

You will be shown all aspects of freight forwarding, including:

• Initial freight booking
• Tracking of shipment
• An understanding of the documentation involved
• Knowledge of UK Customs requirement and how we declare all goods
• Experience of UK Port operations and how they affect us
• Close working relationship with our approved haulage partners

As you learn to use our system, you will see and learn how we interact with our clients through their unique and personalized “Client Portals” which allows them to track their shipments to their door, upload documents or review performance statistics.

Over the course of the internship I have gained so many new skills from each area that I worked in. Every department allowed me to learn something new and useful that was not only relevant to the work I was doing, but applicable in my day-to-day life.

Moving departments forced me to become a more organised and flexible person, and the plethora of training sessions available meant I have been able to greatly enhance my soft skills. This was especially useful when presenting my overall experience of each area to the Heads of Department and soon the Board of Directors.
